Gorgeous Grandma Day was started by a dating site for over-50s. According to the site, a grgeous grandma is every woman over fifty, sixty, or seventy who:

• Believes she has her whole life ahead of her, not her whole life behind her.
• Wants to get the most out of every day of her life.
• Wants to thrive, not just survive.
• Cares for her mind and her body.
• Remains adaptable to life’s bittersweet as well as sweet.
• Cherishes herself as much as she cherishes her loved ones.
• Refuses to remain static - who is always open to learning, to new ideas, to new challenges and to new experiences.
• Loves life - and lets everyone know it!

Nothing to argue about there. My one quibble is the age factor. In real life, gorgeous grandmas aren’t all over 50. I’m a 40-year-old grandma (not necessarily gorgeous- but I think I fit the above criteria). My sister is a young grandma, too. We’re very different from our grandmothers. And although I’m single (my sister is not), I really have no desire to “look for love.” Right now, the love of my life is my 2-year-old grandson Jack–and that’s fine by me.

For single grandmas who are looking for love, that dating site it great. But let’s not assume that to be happy and have a fulfilling life, grandmas must also have men in their lives or they’re not really gorgeous. Maybe there should be a “single and like it that way day” for gorgeous grandmas.
