July 10 - Don’t Step on a Bee Day
This holiday comes to us from Wellcat.com, which reminds kids and grownups that now is the time when going barefoot can mean getting stung by a bee. Just when you least expect it, you can get zapped stepping on a bee. Nothing brings play to a screeching halt faster than the pain of a bee sting. For folks allergic to bees, that little stinger can be deadly.
However, this holiday may come to a screeching halt if we can’t find a bee to step on. That soon may be the case, according to ecent scientific reports saying that honeybees around the country are vanishing.
And according to Albert Einstein, once the bees are gone, “man would have only four years of life left.â€
Bees are critical worldwide for the pollenation of various plants - and now the story being put forward from a limited study at Landau University, is that “radiation given off by mobile phones and other hi-tech gadgets is a possible answer to one of the more bizarre mysteries ever to happen in the natural world - the abrupt disappearance of the bees that pollinate crops. The problem is now affecting half of all American states and sixty percent of it’s commercial bee population has been lost on the West Coast with seventy percent missing on the East Coast.”
I don’t advocate we give up our cell phones to save the bees, but I sure hope that smart people are working on a solution to the problem so that bees and cell phones can live in harmony.
